Novice Semi Finals in Austin Stack Park
Listry and Lispole have qualified for the Castleisland Mart Novice Club Championship Final following victories over St Senans and Knocknagoshel at Tralee’s Austin Stack Park today.
Lispole 2-15 Knocknagoshel 0-18 (AET)
Lispole came back from the brink at the end of normal time to send the second semi final into extra time and once given that second chance they never looked the gift horse in the mouth securing a final place with 3 points to spare.
Knocknagoshel, with Edmund Walsh getting 6 points, led by 8 points to 5 at the break, and still led by those three points, 11 to 8 at the three quarter stage. The North Kerry side fought back to level the tie at 11 points all but three points in as many minutes near the end seemed to have secured Knock a final berth, however, in a last ditch attack, Declan O’Sullivan’s shot was blocked and there was Kerry Minor Brain Rayel to boot to the net and force extra time (1-11 to 0-14).
A second goal by Rayel in extra time proved to be the difference between the sides and Edmund Walsh, despite scoring 13 points, 6 from play, ended up on the losing side.
Listry 1-10 St Senans 0-9
Listry, last year’s beaten finalists, secured a place in this year’s Novice Final following a four points victory over St Senans in the first game at the Tralee venue. The winners, thanks to a goal from Joseph Clifford in the 27th minute and some fine play by Paul Kennedy around the centre of the field, led by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break and went 1-9 to 0-6 ahead by the three quarter stage. St Senans, despite some fine scores by Sean O’Connell missed a number of good point scoring chances and never looked like getting the goal they needed to pull the game out of the fire.
